YELL AT YOUR FAT!

I've recently discovered the most wonderful podcast, YELL AT YOUR FAT!

I'm telling you, I love it. Although Wendy, the author, tends to get a little longwinded, I still like to listen to it. She encourages you to get motivated by the pounds that you have to lose, not get discouraged by them. I've heard it before, but there's something in the way that she delivers it that just makes it so motivating.

Sometimes, in the podcast, Wendy will yell at her own fat. Here's my favorite yell so far:

"FAT! I HATE YOU FAT! I hate how you sit on my legs and you make my legs rub together then I get a rash on my legs and then I can't walk! I hate how you jiggle all around, I hate how you make me go slow up the stairs! I hate how you make me pant really hard when I try to walk! I HATE YOU!"

Isn't that hilarious? The awesome part is that Wendy has said goodbye to a lot of her fat, 139 pounds, in fact. She gives tons of good tips and motivations that have worked for her. (See before and after photos here.)

Give it a listen. You'll be glad you did.

If you're reading this post thinking,"EEEK! I don't have an iPod, how am I supposed to listen to a podcast?" You can do it from your iTunes. Simply go to the iTunes store, search "Yell at Your Fat", click on the podcast icon, then from there you can double click each individual episode to listen straight from your computer without having to download. :)

Say hello to my little trainer

It burns. It burns real good.

5K? I am outta my mind!

Anyone remember the post about exercising a little while ago?

Yeah. It hasn't happened.

But there's good news! My friend invited me to run a 5K with her at the beginning of May, and I'm planning on doing it. I know what you're thinking, Candice, it's only 3.2 miles. Yes, I know. That's what scares me!

You see, about 3 years ago I "ran" a half-marathon. Except things didn't exactly go according to plan with my body and with it being my first race. I made a lot of common mistakes.

Does wearing too many clothes ring a bell? And I wore a thermal shirt under my t-shirt, which made removing it nearly impossible when I got hot. Duh.

The weather predicted rain, but does it ever rain in Moab? I was expecting a rather chilly day, but was met with sunshine. Blast.

So along I waddled attempting to remove my thermal out from underneath my shirt, which was not an easy task. By the time I was finished with it, I had nearly wasted all my energy and was spent. Well too bad I had about 8 miles left!

I remember I was the last to finish out of the three of us in our group. I was so exhausted that I started crying after I finished. My sister asked me, "Candice, what's wrong?! Are you okay?" After I thought about it, I stopped crying when I realized I was okay. Then I felt like a doofus.

To add insult to self-image injury, I staggered over to the food table to find a bunch of crumbled up cookies and green oranges left to eat. Good grief, how long did it take me to finish this race, two days?

My next stop was the toilet, where I was immediately sick. Then the car, where I was sick for the next 4 hours.

Can you tell that I don't have too many pleasant memories about that race? Sure, I did finish but it wasn't something I was too proud of, because I know I could have done better. But I did learn a few things:

1. Don't expect it to ever rain in Moab.
2. Don't wear two pairs of pants and two shirts.
3. Don't train on a treadmill. It's nothing like running outside.
4. Make sure your shoes fit before you buy them.
5. Come mentally prepared. In other words, expect not to live. That way, when you survive each mile, you're excited. "I'm alive!"
6. Bring an iPod. Sagebrush isn't a lovely companion.
7. Don't take Excedrin before engaging in any physical activity.
8. Maybe try a 5k next time.

Which is exactly what I'm doing. Wish me luck.

Thank you!

I just wanted to thank everyone who commented on my last post about exercising. I'm so thankful for the tips and I will really try to apply them to my life!

Just in case you're reading and you wanted some of the tips from the comments, here they are:

-Keep going and get into a schedule. Bailey said she recommended three days of cardio and two days of weight training and mixing it up with other activities to keep yourself interested.

-Try doing a workout at home, such as yoga. Whitney recommends Crunch Yoga, available on Amazon.

-Kami suggested working out with a friend because then you have an appointment that you would have to meet.

I have to tell you, I love these tips. Honestly though, I think that motivation really does come from the inside and only I can decide if I am going to make it to the gym or not. If I want to, I will. These suggestions will make it a lot easier, though. I would like to add a tip that really worked for me when I made it to the gym every day:

-Plan on going to the gym right after work or school. This really worked for me because I would get home, immediately change, and head out the door. I always fail when I go home and sit down. Then I have no motivation to go back out.

Yesterday, I stumbled upon a podcast that I had downloaded onto my iPod the other day, and the title of it is "Oprah and Bob Greene's Weight Loss Webcast" and it's dated January 13. If you have iTunes, I would suggest that you download and listen. (Search Oprah.com's Health and Wellness Channel) It's a little lengthy, but it's worth it. I thought that I would sum up a few things they said that I thought were really powerful.

What I liked about the podcast is that they talked about letting yourself down. Oprah said that once she makes an appointment with someone, she will never let them down and keeps her promises. However, if she plans on doing something for herself like working out, she's less likely to keep that promise because the only person she's letting down is herself. But Bob Greene explains that when you plan on doing something during the day and you don't get around to it, you disappoint yourself constantly. After a while, you stop trusting yourself and almost expect to fail. Does this sound familiar? I know it does with me.

Bob also talks about making sure your life is really balanced. He suggests making a circle and naming 7-8 things that are really important to you, such as family, religion, career, spirituality, health, etc. Then he says to think about each factor and decide if it's going positively in your life or going negatively. For example, my health would probably be a negative. Although I eat really healthy, I just don't work out. Bob says that when something is going negatively
in your life, you are probably overcompensating with other things to make yourself feel better. One lady that called in figured out that she ate food to make herself feel better because her relationship with her husband was lacking, for example.

So what am I missing? I'll have to figure it out, but I think there's a lot to be said about living a balanced life and constantly working towards that goal.

What do you think?

My Idea of Working Out Lately

Or perhaps...

or last but not least...

I'm being completely serious. Well, at least somewhat.

Before I got married, I used to have a regular workout schedule. But now, it's pretty much...oh you know... NONEXISTENT.

And let me tell you something, I hate it. Almost every day I tell myself that I'm going to make it outside or up to the gym but when I actually have time to do it, I would rather do other things. At the end of the night, I kick myself for not going. The next day, it happens again.

AHH the constant frustration! Where has my motivation gone?

What do I get as punishment for not exercising? My body is in shambles. SHAMBLES. This morning, I woke up and felt so stiff in my neck and my arms. I was so confused, what have I done lately to be sore? Oh, and I instantly had the answer: practicing my violin. How pathetic.

So I'm asking you, in some form of desperation, where/how do you get your motivation to get up and get moving? Also, what is your favorite, most effective form of exercise? And last but not least, I know you all are so busy, how do you fit it into your schedule?
