Well, we did it! We went to Seattle this past weekend and it was a blast. We both loved it up there and it didn't even rain the entire time! It was actually really hot. But we really really enjoyed it. Luckily our hotel, the Ace Hotel, was located right in downtown, so we got to walk everywhere. (By the way, if you are ever going to Seattle, I would recommend the Ace. Cheap, affordable, and the beds are incredible! The only downside is that it is European style, which means you share a bathroom. It wasn't a problem at all and the bathrooms were clean and always open. There are rooms with bathrooms in them, but they are more expensive.) Anyway...where was I? Oh yes, most of the downtown attractions were within a few blocks of where we were and also right by the water. Just perfect.

The Emerald City
For our first anniversary, Mark and I are heading to Seattle! We actually wanted to go there for our honeymoon, but we were too poor. So now that we have tax returns and rebates, we are finally going! I got a little brave and booked a room at the Ace Hotel. I have ye
t to get plane tickets, but that is our next step. After hearing my siblings rave about the city, we decided it would be a fun little getaway to celebrate our first year! Here are a few things that we are thinking of doing. (For some reason, I just like doing lists lately, so sorry.)
1. Mariners game- I am so excited about this.
I've always been a fan of the MLB, but I'm about the only person in my family who hasn't seen a game live. I think they are going to be playing the Padres when we are there. If I'm lucky, maybe Maddux will be pitching! I want to catch a foul ball and I'll consider myself lucky if I get hit by a bat. I'm also dying to try the garlic fries and have bad breath for about a week.
2. Pike's Place Market-I've heard about this place countless times. Everyone tells me I can't miss it. Perhaps I'll volunteer to go catch a fish. I can only imagine the disaster that would ensue; they would chuck a colossal salmon at me, I would helplessly stick my arms out, the monster would slap across my face, then I would be knocked unconscious and topple over the endless piles of shrimp, halibut, and sea bass.
3. Ride the Ducks of Seattle-Okay, we probably won't do this one, but I think it's hilarious. My brother painted out the perfect description of the first time he saw this thing: " I was walking down the sidewalk when I saw this bus. Everyone was wearing lifejackets, then it took off into the water!!" I don't know about the lifejackets bit, but touring Seattle in the ocean in a bus sounds awesome.
4. Space Needle- I hope that I will be able to do this one. Mark is not a huge fan of heights, and I haven't talked to him about it. Maybe I should just blindfold him and drag him up there with me anyway. Sounds like a good idea, doesn't it?
Whatever else we do is up to the time and place, I guess. We can't wait to travel again, even just for a little while. It would be nice to get a few tips on the best ways to travel in Seattle because we aren't renting a car. If anyone else has any suggestions, please feel free to suggest!
